Concept

Universal Overall, the American workwear brand established in Chicago in 1924. It has continuously pursued durable and affordable items for over a century and is popular with many workers even today as one of the few manufacturers of real work clothing. Above all, its standard 100% cotton work pants, coveralls, and shop coats are longtime best sellers that are loved by Japanese fans of good old American workwear. In their pursuit of tough workwear, they were also early to adopt cotton-polyester chino material, which has better durability against wear and washing, and its T/C chino trousers, which were very popular with workers at the time, are currently popular with many as a standard material that is an essential work fashion element.

BRAND HISTORY #1
The Beginning of Universal Overall

In 1924, Max and Joe Eckerling, who had immigrated from Austria in search of the American dream, rented a loft on the 3rd floor of a building on Roosevelt Road in Chicago and began manufacturing workwear. They started the brand by calling themselves Universal Overall Company.
Jeanswear was also known as overalls until the 1950s because the workwear of the time was worn by coal miners on top of other clothing.
Universal Overall has grown for almost a century since then and remains a hands-on family-run business that continues to be loved. From the time they started manufacturing workwear, Max and Joe formed the perfect team they wanted. Joe did everything from making workwear patterns to cutting and sewing, and Max was in charge of taking orders, sales, and deliveries. Their products were mainly focused on men's denim and dungarees. Among workers at the time, they had a reputation as the workwear that could withstand hard work.
With the growth of the brand, they added bib overalls, shop coat aprons, coveralls, and shop coats to their items. They particularly understood the importance of coveralls in workwear and tried to create the most suitable possible coveralls. Their spirit of perseverance continues unchanged to this day, and the improvement of products is continuing even now.
You can sense their spirit of perseverance from their obsession with textiles, including their sense of size that was conceived on the premise of the fact that they are worn over inner clothing, vest pocket size, twin-needle stitchwork, and herringbone weave.
It is brilliant that the patterns of their archival designs are still in use.

BRAND HISTORY #2
Pride in Workwear

Universal Overall's first customers were pioneers in the workwear item rental business. As the businesses of these customers grew, Universal Overall also expanded. However, shrinkage of the product was a major problem in the early days. Max was able to obtain the assistance of many technical experts to overcome this situation.

He visited a large number of industrial cleaners and technical experts to observe and analyse their technologies and found a way to solve this problem. This process gave the business partners of Universal Overall a competitive edge, leading to it becoming popular with many users.
Over the next 60 years, Universal Overall changed with the times. In recent years, they have further expanded their product line and strengthened their production base, centred around Chicago. They also have a line of flame-resistant items to comply more rigorously with flame resistance standards and accommodate specialised workwear. They quickly proceeded to establish a system to achieve even more accurate communications with customers. Through it, their customers have achieved smooth business operations by contacting Universal Overalls at any time and getting the information they need when they need it.
Currently, it is one of few real work brands that has continued to provide uniforms to many famous companies as it always has, by continuing to stubbornly maintain good old American workwear. It had already made landfall in Japan at the time of the first American boom in the 1980s. It began to be loved by avid workwear fans at that time and has released genuine workwear that is popular with many people as fashion items.
